Context
The rabbit farming industry is undergoing a complete transition as it evolves to meet growing societal expectations and upcoming regulatory requirements regarding animal welfare and farming methods. The French industry, for example, has set a goal of achieving 30% alternative housing to traditional cages by 2030. After more than 10 years of research, Mixscience is now able to offer the rabbit farming industry an ergonomic, innovative, and cost-effective solution.
- Cuniloft is an alternative housing system that guarantees rabbit farmers technical performance in their facilities, a comfortable working environment, and the well-being of their rabbits.
Deliverables
- Customized studies carried out prior to project launch: building sizing, adaptation to the farmer’s objectives and the farm’s layout (particularly in cases of renovation or expansion), technical-economic and financial analyses to assess the required investment and expected performance.
- Housing layout, identification of equipment and suppliers, support during construction, farm startup
- Technical support tailored to the new housing: farm management, nutrition, ventilation audit
Key features
With Cuniloft, the goal of “animal welfare” is fully achieved, as the facilities allow young rabbits to express their natural behaviors: 60% more living space, 4.5 times more movement, and 2.3 times more exploration with burrows to hide in, mezzanines to leap from, and no height restrictions for standing up.
Cuniloft also provides comfort for the breeder.
The enclosures, which can house 100 to 300 rabbits, are at human height and offer a healthy environment with natural light and controlled ventilation. Labor time is reduced by 23% compared with traditional housing.
Cuniloft is a profitable investment. Investment costs are 25% to 35% lower than those of other housing systems on the market. Materials are rigorously selected for their durability and practicality, and performance is proven in existing farms.
Finally, Cuniloft reinforces pride in the profession. These innovative housing units are very popular with farmers, as evidenced by their feedback: “I wouldn’t go back,” “I enjoy watching my rabbits run and jump.” Cuniloft is now enhancing the appeal the rabbit farming industry.
