Laying Hens

Nutrition and Technical Partner for the Pullet and Laying Hen Sectors

Mixscience works in partnership with feed manufacturers, integrators, pullet and laying hen farmers, and other industry players. Through tailored nutritional strategies and hands-on technical support, our approach is designed to enhance farm performance and, more broadly, production organizations by:

  • Promoting the start-up of pullets
  • Achieving the level of egg quality expected by the market—while keeping production costs under control.

Our in-depth knowledge of the laying hen market enables us to provide comprehensive support across all production methods, regardless of the intended use of the eggs produced— shell eggs or egg products – and to meet the needs of all types of laying hen and pullet operations: cage or alternative systems, red or white breeds, and systems focused on number or weight.

Tailoring nutrition to local conditions

Tailoring nutrition to the farming context, environmental conditions, and the specific characteristics of the breeds (red or white pullets) is at the heart of Mixscience’s approach.

Our solutions are closely aligned with the realities of the field – feed manufacturers, animals and farmers – and take into account the operational challenges of manufacturing facilities. This approach is based on farm visits and factory visits, the use of audit and diagnostic tools, as well as personalized technical support.

Our expertise as nutritionists in product formulation

As nutritionists, we develop bespoke solutions to help you achieve your performance goals.

Detailed raw materials characterization enables us to determine nutritional properties and develop formulations that reflect the recommended feed presentation criteria: shape, particle size, method of ingestion, factors that enhance the animal’s appetite.

Meeting economic, health, social, and environmental expectations

Mixscience draws on its expertise in nutrition and animal science to meet the challenges of an evolving market where health, social and environmental expectations are increasingly demanding, and to support farm performance on a long-term basis and the evolution of practices within the egg industry.

Addressing health issues

  • Support digestive health and manage the impact on the quality of droppings and eggs
  • Maintain digestive health with a consistent appetite for the food
  • Deal with situations of stress, whether caused by environmental factors or digestive issues

Contributing to animal welfare

  • Work on behavior with peers
  • Minimize the risk of nervousness
  • Offer specific care for hens whose beaks have not been trimmed

Improving animal welfare to reflect societal expectations

Promote a suitable rearing environment with tailored support that addresses the identified issues:

  • Manage the atmosphere: temperature, lighting, and ventilation in livestock housing
  • Support in choosing alternative production models
  • Incorporate field release into the management of health pressure and environmental changes

Improving the nutritional and health quality of finished products

Perfect the eggshell

  • Contribute to the quality and strength of the shells,
  • Reach the desired size,
  • Adjust the color of egg yolk using natural and synthetic pigments with the help of a modeling tool to obtain the desired color intensity.

Optimize the quality of egg products

  • Improve the technological quality of the egg:
    – Easy separation of the white and the yolk,
    – Improved shelf life
  • Control and adjust egg pigmentation based on its intended use, such as in pastries, pasta, etc., using natural or synthetic pigments. Mixscience uses an in-house modeling tool to accurately assess and adjust the amount of pigment needed to achieve the desired color.

Supporting the decarbonization of laying hen farms

  • Reduce the environmental footprint of laying hen farms – CO₂ emissions and waste – through tailored nutritional programs.
  • Develop specialized tools that help feed manufacturers assess the environmental impact of compound feed and identify formulations improvements to limit CO₂ emissions per kilogram of eggs.
