Context

The intensification of aquaculture has led to the emergence of new issues that are specific to shrimp, such as EHP.
Enterocytozoon hepatopenaei (EHP) is a microsporidian endoparasite that affects the hepatopancreas of shrimp. Like any successful parasite, EHP needs a host. It does not appear to cause high mortality, but does affect overall performance.

Exposure to the parasite is associated with:

  • A deterioration in the feed conversion ratio (FCR)
  • Significant growth delay
  • Less marketable shrimp

These performance deficits result in economic losses for farmers who, in the worst-case scenario, must decide to harvest early, before reaching target market sizes.

Product features

A-Coverost is a unique, patented solution developed in collaboration with Oléon, Avril’s oleochemical subsidiary. It is a unique and complementary blend of oleochemical compounds and an active matrix selected for aquaculture to help reduce issues associated with endoparasitic challenges.

Benefits

  • Intestinal: helps control the parasite load
  • Animal: helps reduce the impact on host performance in the event of a parasite challenge
  • Farm environment: optimizes health conditions and yields in the event of a health challenge
  • Sustainability: respectful of animal welfare and the environment
